ICANN Annual review of WHOIS information email notifications

If you have received an email with the subject "Annual review of WHOIS information" from Norservers(.com), but with a "from" address of do_not_reply@name-controls.com, you may be unsure if the email is legitimate or if you should click the link provided. The email may appear to be from ICANN or related to ICANN regulations.

It is important to ensure that your domain contact information is accurate and up to date. These emails are sent on behalf of ICANN to confirm the accuracy of your WHOIS information and the subject line is usually "Important Notice Regarding Your Domain Name(s)." We recommend following the guidance provided in these emails to maintain ownership and control of your domain. It is safe to click the link in the email as long as you have confirmed that it goes to name-controls.com and not any other domain.

However, we understand that you may be cautious about clicking the link in the email. To verify your domain contact details, you can also complete the steps through your customer account.

  1. Login to your Norservers customer account here: Customer Account
  2. Choose Domains > Registered Domains from the main menu
  3. Select Settings beside the domain for which you intend to update contact information.
  4. Choose the "Update Contact Info" button or "WHOIS Contacts" button.
  5. You will see three tabs: Registrant, Admin, Tech. Update your contact info under each tab as necessary.
  6. Click the Save Changes button.

It might take a few minutes for the changes to be applied and potentially a few hours for them to be reflected in the WHOIS information.

No action is required if your contact information is correct. Overall, it is important to be diligent and cautious when it comes to security, but these emails from ICANN are legitimate and it is safe to follow their guidance.
